Job Summary:  Located at the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), Office of Immunization. Family Resource Specialist will conduct quality assurance visits in child care facilities to support a public health infrastructure that assures high immunization coverage levels and low incidence of vaccine preventable disease.

Scheduled: 35 hours per week

Essential Functions:
-Conduct in-home & center-based child care visits
-Generate written reports detailing findings
-Identify and prepare educational materials to review and share with providers
-Provide education/outreach activities at community-based events to promote immunizations
Share educational materials, immunization updates and best practices
Partner with WIC, Family Outreach, Communications and other RIDOH programs to educate parents about immunizations
Attends Head Start Health Advisory meetings, DHS Community Exchange and other community child care groups
Participate in the Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Disease Trainings
-Attend weekly staff meetings
-Translate educational material from English to Spanish
-Review child care survey findings with child care providers
-Generates a childcare newsletter
-Works with project manager on annual childcare survey
-Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Previous experience conducting outreach activities
-Strong writing and communication/presentation skills, ability to speak to groups
-Demonstrated written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish
-Work independently and with diverse groups
-Ability to take initiative
-Strong analytical skills/abilities
-Great organizational skills
-Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
-Data entry experience required

Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or GED and a combination of education and skills to effectively carry out responsibilities and assignments
-Community Health Workers certification preferred; non-certified incumbents are expected to earn certification within 18 months of hire date
-Personal experience navigating state and community services and programs on behalf of self or a family member
-Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb stairs, reach, stretch, stand and bend. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Employee is also required to remain at their station for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions/ Work Environment:
-Primary work location is a climate-controlled indoor office environment; however, employee will also be required to conduct visits in private homes and various community locations.
-Flexibility for occasional travel related to job requirements.
-Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
-Provide own reliable transportation with proof of RI requirements of auto insurance
