Working Title: Health Equity Zone Project Officer
Estimated Start Date: September 14, 2020
Duration of Hire: Funding secured through 6/30/2021, with possibility of extension
Scope of Work:
- Serve as a liaison between the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and Health Equity Zone (HEZ) communities. HEZs utilize an equity-centered approach that leverages geographic-based, community-led solutions to address the root causes of health inequities, including those related to the disparate impact of COVID-19;
- Support each HEZ to develop community-specific strategies that address social and environmental determinants of health, while maintaining fidelity to the core elements of the HEZ process, which include collaborative building, community assessment, action planning, implementation, and evaluation;
- Assure bi-directional communication between HEZ collaborative members, including resident leaders, and RIDOH leadership and program staff in order to enhance strategies that reduce health disparities and promote investments in local public health infrastructure;
- Assist in contract management while fostering relationships with HEZ backbone agency representatives as well as community organizations, businesses, municipal leaders, and residents who makeup each HEZ Collaborative;
- Work as part of an internal HEZ Team that supports the implementation and evaluation of activities across the HEZ Initiative, with the primary goal of ensuring the continuity of vision, direction, and expansion of HEZ capacity;
- Review monthly reports and invoices to ensure requisitions for reimbursements are valid; provide assistance to Fiscal Liaison to ensure timely and accurate invoicing;
- Act as a liaison between the HEZ community and RIDOH and other State agency programs to ensure specific grants/investments are properly implemented;
- Identify training and technical assistance needs of HEZ communities and ensure participation in training activities;
- Attend all regular meetings and other events of assigned HEZs whenever possible.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external partners;
- Contribute to the preparation of presentations and policy briefs for departmental leaders and external partners;
- Have the ability to work occasional nights and weekends;
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a dynamic team;
- Experience working collaboratively with community-based partners and resident leaders to develop and implement projects, promotion campaigns, and/or programs;
- Knowledge of and experience in public health programming and policy at the local and national levels;
- Understanding of health equity, the factors contributing to health disparities/inequities, and the influence of social and environmental determinants of health;
- Experience supporting community-led efforts to address inequities and advance social change;
- Experience in program/project management and performance measurement;
- Adept organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks;
- Capacity to connect complex concepts and make actionable recommendations;
- Understanding of public health surveillance methodologies;
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal and public speaking;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
