Position: Community Health Worker / Promotora de Salud
Start Date: December 2020
Part-time/ Full time – 26 week position

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Project Coordinator in the Wellness Department at Progreso Latino, the
candidate will work as a community health worker, or promotora de salud. They will assist in COVID-19
related projects aimed at acquiring community input, collaboration, and serving as a local resource and
educator. CHWs or Promotoras will directly interface with Central Falls and Pawtucket residents to
distribute information, materials, and provide health resources. They will assist in the recruitment of
participants for virtual and/or in-person group functions, in addition to facilitating events and aiding in the
collection of data.

Requirements:

  1. Must be a City of Central Falls/Pawtucket/Providence Resident;
  2. Bilingual candidates PREFERRED- with proficiency in the following languages: English, Spanish,
    Portuguese, and/or Creole
  3. Must be committed and flexible for the 26-week position, which includes Monday through Friday
  4. Must have reliable transportation

Responsibilities:

• Required to attend CHW/Promotora training with Progreso Latino (Previous CHW certification a bonus)
• Responsible for disseminating COVID-19 related information to community members and local
businesses
• Responsible for travel within and across community to perform outreach at designated community hubs
• CHW/Promotores will monitor, track, and promote protocol adherence not limited to mask usage,
sanitization, testing, and tracing
• Will assist in the distribution of prevention materials not limited to masks, hand sanitizer, cleaning
supplies, etc.
• Will assist in the design and dissemination of COVID-19 messaging, including flyers/posters/banners or
directing constituents to appropriate media outlets
• Ambassadors will emphasize the importance of maintaining proper social distancing, help dissuade fear,
concern, and offer proper information and resources
• Track and document the amount of individuals contacted, education, referred, or assisted
• Will serve as a liaison between residents with COVID-19 related questions and the Wellness team
• Will assist with recruiting community members for focus groups and interviews
• Will assist with the coordination and facilitation of group events
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both with Progreso Latino and its partners in
addition to community members
• Must be comfortable working with people of all backgrounds, socio-economic status, gender identity,
religious identity, and sexual orientation
