DESCRIPTION:April 20\, 2023 10:00-10:30 AM Women Speaker series\, Phyllis Dobbins will present her Story/Message  \n\n\n\nPhyllis Dobbins has been a member of NAMI-RI since January 2005\, participating every year in the annual Walk\, as well as most other NAMI-RI events and activities. She and her husband Dale attended NAMI-RI Family to Family class and maintained a support group from that class for 15 years. Phyllis participated in three national NAMI conferences. Continuing to expand her knowledge of mental illness and current research. Because advocacy has been a strong personal mission\, Phyllis regularly submits written and oral testimony at the state\, national\, and governmental levels. As a member of the Providence Clubhouse Development Committee\, she was instrumental in the establishment of Harbor House and supports Oasis Wellness & Recovery Centers of Rhode Island. Prior to retirement\, Phyllis was involved in the field of language education as a teacher\, editor and consultant. DESCRIPTION:Early bird prices end 4/20! \n\n\n\nThe 2023 Trans Health Conference is sponsored by the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Rhode Island College School of Social Work & School of Nursing. \n\n\n\n\nVisit Their Website & Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Rhode Island Trans Health Conference is back! After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the conference has returned to offer a full day of in-person education\, resources\, and shared best practices. This is the 6th Rhode Island Trans Health Conference dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) community. The conference will provide interactive\, evidenced-based learning for medical and behavioral health professionals across the care continuum to increase comfortability and confidence in providing quality care for all TGD individuals. In addition to didactic presentations\, attendees will have opportunities to learn from practitioners with lived experience and expertise in TGD health and wellness. Running concurrently to the Medical and Behavioral Health Tracks\, the Community Track will hold space for the TGD community and their families to learn about available resources and rebuild a sense of community connectedness. \n\n\n\nTarget Audience\n\n\n\nPhysicians specializing in primary care\, obstetrics\, endocrinology\, general medicine\, family medicine\, pediatrics\, adolescent medicine\, and surgery & nurses\, nurse practitioners\, psychologists\, physician assistants\, social workers\, medical students\, residents and fellows\, public health workers\, community health workers\, educators\, licensed mental health care providers\, and members of the transgender and gender non-conforming community \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\nUpon completion of this activity\, medical and behavioral health providers will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nApply evidence-based practice guidelines and updated standards of care in their work with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients across the lifespan\n\n\n\nIdentify specific challenges and barriers unique to TGD patients and ways to advocate for the TGD population  in the healthcare system and beyond\n\n\n\nDevelop an integrated practice that understands both medical and behavioral health needs and available resources for TGD patients\n\n\n\n\nUpon completion of this activity\, public health and community members will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify everyday issues faced by transgender and gender diverse (TGD) community members and ways to address them\n\n\n\nMore deeply understand identity development and the importance of intersectionality\n\n\n\nIdentify legal\, behavioral health\, and medical needs and available resources\n\n\n\n\n\nSee Flyer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit Their Website & Register
