DESCRIPTION:Clinica Esperanza is currently accepting applications for our 10-week\, Advanced Navegante Training Program\, which is set to begin on 2/7/2022. Individuals accepted into the program will be trained as Community Health Workers and will have the opportunity to complete a Medical Interpreter course\, completely free of charge. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore information can be found on the application linked here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe course will include the following:\n1- Community Health Worker Training Certificate (Includes on-site or virtual meetings 2 evening per week for 10 weeks)\n2- Chronic Disease short course (Diabetes\, Hypertension\, Cardiovascular Disease)\n3- Case Management training\n4- Fist AID/CPR training\n5- Formal Medical Interpreter training course: ($650 value- this will be free of charge for Navegante training participants who qualify)\n6- Vida Sana training (Lifestyle change program for low Literacy Spanish -Speaking Adults): One Weekday Evening for 10 weeks.Medical Interpreter Training will be free for individuals who pledge to complete the Navegantes Program. DESCRIPTION:Achieving Health Equity for People with Disabilities During the Pandemic and Beyond\nRegister for webinar here! \n\nIn the United States\, one in four adults has a disability and the pandemic has disproportionately impacted this community and made it more difficult to access care. Some people with disabilities were more likely to become infected with or have a severe illness from COVID-19 due to underlying medical conditions or living situations. The pandemic also affected their psychological and financial health\, with people with disabilities experiencing higher rates of unemployment than the general population. While individuals with disabilities were often given higher priority status for receiving the vaccine\, many of the COVID-19 vaccine websites violated disability rights\, hindering access. \nThis webinar will explore these challenges and showcase strategies to address the diverse needs of people living with disabilities and work toward health equity. Originally scheduled to take place at the URI Ryan Center in the Spring\, due to COVID\, Virtual Calling All Veterans Day will be live streamed on RI Elder Info’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.  Subject matter experts will provide meaningful information to viewers. Speakers will answer your questions in real time. Any question that can’t be answered during the event will be followed up on. This is an opportunity for the community members to gather information and resources that empower their own independent aging. \n\n\n\n\nVirtual Calling All Veterans Day will be an opportunity for over 9\,000 WWII\, Korean Veterans and their families\, to learn what resources are available for themselves and their spouses to age independently. \n\n\n\n\nVirtual Calling All Veterans Day will enable our 21\,000 Vietnam Veterans to learn what regulations and benefits have been changed and updated since they returned home. The training is designed to build knowledge related to Dementia and diseases that cause Dementia. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms associated with Dementia with an emphasis on prevention and early detection.Throughout the training\, participants will be invited to explore the care continuum through the lens of people living with Dementia\, their caretakers\, and the supports and services in place to help them. Participants will have the opportunity to shape their practice with person-centered and trauma-informed approaches as well as effective communication skills. \nParticipation in this training requires completion of a pre-assessment at the start of training and again 90 days following the training. Participants will also be asked to complete a training evaluation. \nEligible participants will be entitled to a stipend of $75 dollars for the combined attendance at training and completion of pre-assessment and training evaluation data. The epidemiology and trends in HIV\, HCV and other STDs will be reviewed among at risk populations in Rhode Island.\nParticipants will acquire skills to effectively provide risk reduction counseling related to HIV/HCV/STD infection. \nSpeakers are Brown University faculty and affiliated healthcare providers\, as well as representatives from community organizations serving persons living with HIV.
