DESCRIPTION:Learn How to Apply for Certification! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBegin preparing your application\, including portfolio\, for submission to the RI Certification Board. \n\n\n\nMay 24\, 6pm-7:30pmVirtual over Zoom \n\n\n\nIf you have already taken a Community Health Worker training and want guidance on applying for CHW certification in RI\, this workshop is for you! This free virtual workshop will give advice\, clarity and facts about preparing your portfolio. Please note: CHWARI does not provide the certification itself; that authority resides with the RI Certification Board. DESCRIPTION:Join the Rhode Island Department of Health for a “hotwash” session\, aimed at collecting input on the CHW experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to help us be better prepared for a future emergency. This type of activity is a common tool used across the field of emergency response as a way to come together\, gain consensus on what happened\, and take steps to be more ready in the future. \n\n\n\nOur meeting will focus on the following: \n\n\n\n\nWhat Happened– this section will focus on just the facts and events that occurred\, making sure we have proper documentation of the timeline of events\n\n\n\nStrengths– this section will focus on strengths and successes of the response​\n\n\n\nAreas of Improvement – this section will focus on what could have been done better​\n\n\n\nBarriers and Challenges – this section will focus on what may have prevented certain things from happening that we could not have really done anything about​\n\n\n\nRecommendations– this section will focus on general suggestions for achieving better outcomes in a future situation\n\n\n\n\nPlease feel free to forward this invitation to other Rhode Island CHWS who have been involved in the pandemic response. You are also welcome to forward to former team members that may have left your organization but hold important memories of our collective action to combat COVID-19 here in RI. SUMMARY:Older Adults CHW Training
DESCRIPTION:“Building Holistic Partnerships with Older Adults:  A Community Health Work\, Person-Centered & Social Determinants of Health Approach” Training for certification in the Specialty of Older Adults.  \n\n\n\nThe virtual Older Adults Training will run over Zoom on Thursdays\, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm\, from May 18 through July 13\, 2023. There will not be a class on June 29. Attendance is required at all class sessions. \n\n\n\nThe FREE training will provide CHWs with knowledge of the following: \n\n\n\n\nCHWs\, Aging & the Workforce\n\n\n\nSociological Contexts of Aging: Obstacles & Opportunities\n\n\n\nPractice Perspective: Building Partnerships that Empower\n\n\n\nSocial Determinants of Health & Aging: Obstacles & Opportunities\n\n\n\nThreats to Health Aging: Behavioral Health Challenges & Dementia\n\n\n\nHealthy Aging\n\n\n\nEmpowering Partnerships & Resource Navigation\n\n\n\n\nTraining will be comprised of weekly scheduled Zoom sessions\, 5:30pm-8:30pm\, and assignments and activities requiring about 1-2 hours of additional time weekly.Eligibility: \n\n\n\n\nRhode Island CHW Certification (or currently in process of applying for) \n\n\n\nExperience working or volunteering with the older adult population\n\n\n\n\nThis training fulfills the RI Certification Board’s requirements for the CCHW Specialty in Older Adults endorsement. Read more about applying for the endorsement here.  This is NOT the application for this training. \n\n\n\nThe deadline for the application is Tuesday\, May 9\, 2023 at 5pm. SUMMARY:Sleep Well\, Live Well: A Focus on Sleep in the Adult Primary Care Setting
DESCRIPTION:Join Lifespan Community Health Institute and the Lifespan Sleep Disorders Center for a free online event on Tuesday\, July 11 from 12 to 1 p.m. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will review sleep as a necessity for life and health\, as well as the changes associated with sleep as we age. The primary care setting is where most referrals start\, and where initial treatment can be initiated. This talk will review the risk factors associated with sleep disorders (specifically obstructive sleep apnea)\, diagnosis\, and treatment options.   \n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\nThis event will be led by Emily B. DESCRIPTION:Come network with other CHWs! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAre you interested in learning more about Neurodivergence* and Disability Justice?  \n\n\n\nAre you or any of your clients Neurodivergent and looking for peer support? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us on July 13th to learn more about LUNA Community Care and the services that they provide for Neurodivergent and Disabled adults in our community. After their presentation there will be a Q & A and then 30 minutes of CHW networking. \n\n\n\n*Neurodivergent individuals are those who’s brains differ from what we’ve socially constructed as “normal” or neurotypical. Examples of Neurodivergence include ADHD\, Autism\, Bipolar\, Personality Disorders\, Schizophrenia\, Chronic Anxiety & Depression\, Cerebral Palsy\, Seizures and more. \n\n\n\nCo-founders Casey Gallagher and Tara Boulais will be presenting. Casey is committed to creating brave communities of care that center the lived experiences of Disabled\, Neurodivergent\, trans\, non-binary\, gender expansive and BIPOC individuals. Casey will be discussing the principles of Disability Justice and sharing information about LUNA Community Care\, which is a neuro-affirming\, gender-affirming peer support space that provide virtual and in-person support groups\, drop-in’s\, activity clubs\, workshops and events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTara Boulais\, CCHW/PRS (she/they) is the Co-Founder of LUNA Community Care. “I am a queer\, non-binary\, AuDHD mother\, peer and community leader. I have been a peer for 6 years and facilitate groups with Oasis\, NAMI\, Crossroads\, Elenor Slater and other long term psychiatric wards and carceral spaces throughout RI. I’m also the foster mother to a child who struggles with their own serious mental illness and trauma. I love to learn and look forward to gaining more formal leadership skills in this training.”
