DESCRIPTION:“Building Holistic Partnerships with Older Adults:  A Community Health Work\, Person-Centered & Social Determinants of Health Approach” Training for certification in the Specialty of Older Adults.  \n\n\n\nThe virtual Older Adults Training will run over Zoom on Thursdays\, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm\, from May 18 through July 13\, 2023. There will not be a class on June 29. Attendance is required at all class sessions. \n\n\n\nThe FREE training will provide CHWs with knowledge of the following: \n\n\n\n\nCHWs\, Aging & the Workforce\n\n\n\nSociological Contexts of Aging: Obstacles & Opportunities\n\n\n\nPractice Perspective: Building Partnerships that Empower\n\n\n\nSocial Determinants of Health & Aging: Obstacles & Opportunities\n\n\n\nThreats to Health Aging: Behavioral Health Challenges & Dementia\n\n\n\nHealthy Aging\n\n\n\nEmpowering Partnerships & Resource Navigation\n\n\n\n\nTraining will be comprised of weekly scheduled Zoom sessions\, 5:30pm-8:30pm\, and assignments and activities requiring about 1-2 hours of additional time weekly.Eligibility: \n\n\n\n\nRhode Island CHW Certification (or currently in process of applying for) \n\n\n\nExperience working or volunteering with the older adult population\n\n\n\n\nThis training fulfills the RI Certification Board’s requirements for the CCHW Specialty in Older Adults endorsement. After their presentation there will be a Q & A and then 30 minutes of CHW networking. \n\n\n\n*Neurodivergent individuals are those who’s brains differ from what we’ve socially constructed as “normal” or neurotypical. Examples of Neurodivergence include ADHD\, Autism\, Bipolar\, Personality Disorders\, Schizophrenia\, Chronic Anxiety & Depression\, Cerebral Palsy\, Seizures and more. \n\n\n\nCo-founders Casey Gallagher and Tara Boulais will be presenting. Casey will be discussing the principles of Disability Justice and sharing information about LUNA Community Care\, which is a neuro-affirming\, gender-affirming peer support space that provide virtual and in-person support groups\, drop-in’s\, activity clubs\, workshops and events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTara Boulais\, CCHW/PRS (she/they) is the Co-Founder of LUNA Community Care. “I am a queer\, non-binary\, AuDHD mother\, peer and community leader. I have been a peer for 6 years and facilitate groups with Oasis\, NAMI\, Crossroads\, Elenor Slater and other long term psychiatric wards and carceral spaces throughout RI. I’m also the foster mother to a child who struggles with their own serious mental illness and trauma. I love to learn and look forward to gaining more formal leadership skills in this training.”

DESCRIPTION:Learn How to Apply for Certification! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBegin preparing your application\, including portfolio\, for submission to the RI Certification Board. \n\n\n\nJuly 19\, 6pm-7:30pmVirtual over Zoom \n\n\n\nIf you have already taken a Community Health Worker training and want guidance on applying for CHW certification in RI\, this workshop is for you! This free virtual workshop will give advice\, clarity and facts about preparing your portfolio. Please note: CHWARI does not provide the certification itself; that authority resides with the RI Certification Board. SUMMARY:CHW Networking Gathering with NAMI RI
DESCRIPTION:Do you work with clients that live with mental health conditions? \n\n\n\nDo you know which NAMI groups and classes you should refer them to?   \n\n\n\nJoin CHWARI on 8/21 at noon to network with other CHWs and learn about the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). This gathering will be facilitated by Penny Ferrara\, manager of NAMI’s school and public education. She has over 15 years working at NAMI RI educating various groups in the general public and in schools on recognizing the signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide\, how stigma can often prevent people from seeking help and the importance of learning positive coping skills. She also teaches Peer to Peer classes.  Her presentation will be followed by a Q &A and then 30 minutes of CHW networking!   \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNAMI Rhode Island (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) offers programs for people affected by mental illness such as Connection support groups and Peer to Peer classes as well as support and classes for family members. \n\n\n\nThese Connection support groups offer a safe place with no judgement to share thoughts and feelings regarding mental illness. Participants can pass and just listen and they often find comfort in group wisdom. These groups on Zoom however there are a few that meet in person. \n\n\n\nOur Peer to Peer classes are facilitated by 2 people living well with their mental illness. Participants learn about the different psychiatric illness in great detail\, how the brain works\, positive coping skills and setting goals. \n\n\n\nThis gathering will be facilitated by Penny Ferrara\, manager of school and public education. DESCRIPTION:The Mi Gente Program and more invite you to the FREE conference Expanding Culturally Responsive Mental Health Care: Diversity among Hispanic/Latinx youth and families on August 25 & 26 at Hilton Providence. \n\n\n\n\nAugust 25th Attendees (8:00am- 4:30pm): Mental Health Professionals\n\n\n\nAugust 26th Attendees (8:00am- 12:00pm): Mental Health Professionals\n\n\n\nAugust 26th Attendees (12:00pm- 4:30pm): Community Members (Presentation in Spanish)\n\n\n\n\nFree CE credits for a maximum of 6.5 credits will be available for psychiatrists and psychologists. A certificate of attendance will be made available for CHWs.
