Haley De La Rosa\, Workforce Development Labor Liasion at the RI Institute for Labor Studies and Research will present. \n\n\n\nLeadership for the Future is an intensive leadership development program that gathers diverse leaders from community groups\, labor unions\, and religious communities to forge relationships and networks that will forever benefit them\, their organizations\, and their communities. It generates a powerful\, committed\, and diverse network of graduates that learn from each other and take action together to achieve the shared goals of economic and social justice for ALL Rhode Islanders. Participants examine the process and impact of social influence and leadership on the many issues facing Rhode Islanders today. \n\n\n\nExpect to learn about their: \n\n\n\n\nParticipatory Workshops\n\n\n\nCommunity Action Projects\n\n\n\nApplication Process (their application opens in the fall)\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister!\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaley De La Rosa is the Workforce Development Labor Liaison at Rhode Island’s premier worker center\, the Institute for Labor Studies and Research (ILSR). Originally from the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas\, Haley moved to Rhode Island in 2013 with a vision to expand opportunities for multilingual learners in the workforce and create new pathways to family sustaining jobs for recent immigrants and historically underrepresented groups. She is a Commissioner on the Rhode Island Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission\, Secretary for the Coalition for Labor Union Women Rhode Island chapter\, and a board member of the Rhode Island Committee on Occupational Safety & Health.

In 2018 she relocated to Rhode Island after been accepted at Brown’s University Neuroscience Post-Bac Program. However\, it was her innate passion for population-based interventions and moral duty that led her to join the non-profit sector during the heightened of the SARS-19; while also working at nights as a Neuroscience Research Assistant at Brown. While fulfilling her duties as a Project Coordinator for the 02907 Health Equity Zone (HEZ); Ámbar had the opportunity to witness first-hand the impact and importance of Community Health Workers (CHWs) when delivery evidence-based approaches to increase Health Equity. The former been what led her to become a certified CHW. Ámbar’s innate curiosity for learning; led her to apply and being accepted at a summer Global Public Health Program at Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2023\, centering her final paper manuscript around asthma and air pollution in RI.During her time at West Elmwood Housing 02907 HEZ\, Ms. Delgado had the opportunity to address a battery of socio-economic determinants of health such as exacerbated asthma rates\, indoors and outdoors air quality\, housing and food insecurity\, social and emotional resiliency\, and health literacy among 02907 demographic. Ámbar is passionate about climate justice\, lung health\, Policy and Systems changes and Social and Emotional resiliency. She was promoted to the Senior CHW position at PCHC in 2021\, and later transitioned to supervisor of the community health worker team. She is a CHW board certified with a specialty in Cardiovascular Health and Diabetes Endorsement and holds a bachelor’s degree in Organization Leadership and Change from College Unbound.Marimir was born and raised in The Dominican Republic and moved to the U.S. 9 years ago. She was previously working as a Certified Nursing Assistant taking care of predominantly Hispanic patients who were homebound in their home and in need of supports and services; that’s when she realized she needed to do more for her community based on what she had seen her patients experience such as a lack of support\, knowledge\, and awareness of needs.She has worked with many Health Equity Zones to address socioeconomic and racial inequities\, bringing personal and professional experiences to the discussion. Do you know the best trauma-informed practices? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis 30 hour training will aid community health workers in addressing interpersonal violence experienced by clients and help them to access community resources. This course will prepare community health workers with the skills needed to be a victim service advocate. Lisa Hoopis\, Director of Education and Training at Sojourner House\, will instruct. \n\n\n\nTraining includes information on: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDomestic violence\n\n\n\nSexual assault\n\n\n\nHuman trafficking\n\n\n\nBoundaries\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrauma-informed care\n\n\n\nSafety planning\n\n\n\nCrisis intervention\n\n\n\nAnd more\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTraining will include guest speakers\, videos\, case studies\, group work\, and role plays. Lisa has taught in various departments\, as an adjunct faculty at Rhode Island College since 2014.  \n\n\n\nLisa is a former undergraduate and graduate student at Rhode Island College and is the former Director of the RIC Women’s Center. Lisa is currently a doctoral student at Johnson and Wales in Educational Leadership. Lisa works closely with school districts and agencies to provide professional and youth development\, training\, consultations\, curriculum development\, and assistance in setting up peer education and advocacy programs.  \n\n\n\nShe is a co-founder and active member of the RI HIV STI prevention coalition and an active member of the RI Cross Campus Collaborative to prevent sexual assault on campus. Lisa is a certified curriculum developer\, trainer\, and evaluator for the VAWA police academy and is co-chair of the RI crime victim service providers. It is open to certified CHWs who are fluent in English.  \n\n\n\nModules include: \n\n\n\n\nHIV Testing\, Antiretroviral Therapy\n\n\n\nClient Engagement and Motivational Interviewing\n\n\n\nSocial Determinants\, Special Populations & Stigma\n\n\n\nBehavioral Health (mental health\, substance use\, domestic violence\, grief & loss)\n\n\n\nCultural Humility and Advocacy\n\n\n\nHIV Public Health Policies\n\n\n\nEthics\, Professional Burnout/Stress\, Self-Awareness and Self-Care\n\n\n\n\nThis 45 hour virtual training takes place over 12 weeks\, with 36 hours live class time over zoom and nine hours of homework. DESCRIPTION:Get the training you need to apply for CHW Certification! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCHWARI’s FREE virtual Community Health Worker Core Competency Training is intended to prepare participants for entry-level CHW positions in community-based social service\, healthcare and behavioral health settings. Its 12 modules are each aligned with a set of competencies defined by the Rhode Island Certification Board. Each module includes 3 hours of live zoom training plus 3 hours of training activities\, for a total of 72 training hours\, fulfilling the 70-hour requirement for RI CHW certification.  Applicants must be fluent in English.  \n\n\n\nThis CHW Core Training will run over ZOOM on Friday mornings\, 9:30am (ET) to 12:30pm (ET)\, from April 19 through July 12\, 2024. *Please note that this training has different weekly hours than our past core trainings.  This is 3 hours each week of zoom class and 3 hours a week of “homework.”*   \n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a great time to apply for this training as participants will be encouraged to apply to our CHW Apprenticeship Program. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever thought about becoming an independent CHW? \n\n\n\nCome chat with Emily Bernstein of Wheelhouse Health (formerly Navigate Health) to learn what is involved with getting started as an independent worker! At Wheelhouse\, we work with clients directly and focus on providing health navigation and empowering individuals by teaching them tools to navigate their own care. We are approved to bill RI Medicaid for our services. We will discuss the benefits of this model\, and some of the hurdles that have come up. SUMMARY:Envision: CHW Affinity Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:RI CCR CHWs are invited to join the next Community Health Worker (CHW) only Community of Practice (CoP) session on Thursday\, February 29\, 2024 1:30 PM-3:00 PM! The CHW CoP is designed to support connections\, relationship-building and peer-to-peer learning for CHWs.  The goal of the CHW CoP is to provide a space for CHWs to share ideas\, best practices and build individual and collective capacity for strengthening the CHW workforce in a way that lifts up and honors the lived and professional experiences of CHWs. For the purposes of this CoP\, we are defining CHWs as an inclusive term. The CoP is designed for community health representatives\, community health workers and promotores\, who are frontline public health professionals that share life experience\, trust\, compassion\, cultural and value alignment with the communities where they live and serve.This 90 minute Community of Practice session will be held on 2/29/2024 @ 1:30 EST.
