SUMMARY:How Community Health Workers and Promotores Can Support Individuals with Complex Needs amid COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Community health workers and promotores (CHW/Ps)\, who typically live in the neighborhoods they serve\, are uniquely positioned to foster trusting relationships and help individuals navigate the health care system\, access needed health and social services\, and ultimately achieve better health outcomes. Today\, as COVID-19 disproportionately impacts high-risk populations and communities of color\, CHW/Ps can play a valuable role in providing critical supports for people with complex health and social needs and addressing health disparities. \nThis webinar\, coordinated by the Better Care Playbook and made possible through the Seven Foundation Collaborative\, will explore opportunities for health systems and plans to work with CHW/Ps to support high-need individuals\, with a focus on addressing the long-term impacts of COVID-19. Featured speakers will describe the roles and value of CHW/Ps\, share implementation and sustainable financing strategies\, and discuss how CHW programs can be established and expanded to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19 on high-risk populations. \nHealth system leaders\, payers\, policymakers\, community-based organizations\, and other interested stakeholders are invited to join this webinar. \nMore Information \nREGISTER FOR THE WEBINAR »

SUMMARY:WORKING WITH THE VIOLENT OFFENDER IN THE COMMUNITY
DESCRIPTION:Date: April 2\, 2020\nPrice: $70.00\nTime: 9:00am-4:00pm\nCEUs: 6.0  Class Type: Classroom\nLevel: Intermediate-Advanced\nInstructor: Brenda Westberry\, MS\nDomain(s): 1\,2\,4\,5\,19\,12    DOMAIN CHART\n\n\n \n\nThis training is being offered by:  \nThe Department of Behavioral Healthcare\, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals\, The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of RI \n\nWhy do people behave so violently in our society? Individuals act aggressively due in part to the circumstances they are in\, lifelong patterns of learning\, socialization and biological factors. The criminal justice system houses many violent offenders who are released into the community while participating in outpatient treatment and services. There are violent risk factors that perpetuate the violent offender’s actions within and outside of corrections leading to communities who are at risk for the consequences of those violent actions. \nIn this training\, participants will explore strategies for working with the violent offender and the mentally ill offender in the criminal justice system. Specific attention will be given to the supervision of both types of offenders within the community setting. \nContinuing Education Credits: \nSocial Worker CEUs: Determination of 6.0 National Association of Social Workers credits are pending. \nChemical Dependency Professionals CEUs: This training has been approved by the RI Certification Board for 6.0 continuing education credits (The RICB is an IC&RC affiliate). \nMental Health Counselors CEUs: Determination of 6.0 RI Mental Health Counselors Association are pending. \n\n\n\nPlease Note: A pre-test is required to be taken before the training. SUMMARY:ADVANCED WORK WITH JUSTICE INVOLVED WOMEN
DESCRIPTION:ADVANCED WORK WITH JUSTICE INVOLVED WOMEN\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate: March 26\, 2020\nPrice: $70.00\nTime: 9:00am-4:00pm\nCEUs: 6.0\nClass Type: Classroom\nLevel: Intermediate-Advanced\nInstructor: Brenda Westberry\, MS\nDomain(s): 1\,2\,4\,5\,10\,12  DOMAIN CHART\n\n\n \n\nThis training is being offered by:  \nThe Opioid Treatment Program Health Home Initiative with support from The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of RI \n\nThe presence of female offenders in the correctional population within the nations criminal justice system has been expanding at a rate that far outweighs their male counterparts. Historically\, correctional institutions are designed to serve predominantly male offender populations and agencies in the community have not addressed the multi-faceted problems that form the context for women’s criminal behavior. Women are released from correctional supervision without the tools to help them live responsibly in the community. Like their male counterparts\, most female offenders are impoverished\, under-educated\, unemployed\, and unskilled. However\, women enter the criminal justice system with unique needs that distinguish them from male offenders. Addiction\, poverty\, unemployment\, physical and mental illness\, sexual abuse and violence often traps a woman in a cycle of hopelessness and crime. Additionally\, the separation caused by incarceration has a damaging effect on children of female prisoners\, who often become the innocent victims of the criminal justice system.\nIn this training\, participants will identify key strategies and emerging issues of female offenders and the family that is useful in developing effective programming to address the unique and challenging needs of women offenders. Special emphasis will be placed on the evaluation of management and risk reduction strategies that consider the different characteristics of female offenders. \n\n\n\nPlease Note: A pre-test is required to be taken before the training.
