Stand by! \n\n\n\nCourse Details: \n\n\n\nDates: TBD (Was Wednesdays\, January 7\, 2026 through March 25\, 2026) \n\n\n\nTime: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM \n\n\n\nLocation: Zoom (the final class on 3/25 may be hosted in person at RIC for a celebration and final presentations\, but this is TBD) \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram Overview: \n\n\n\nDeveloped to teach best practices for achieving optimum health and wellness for people living with HIV/AIDS\, this certification program consists of 36 hours of classroom instruction (12 weeks)\, weekly homework assignments\, and creation of a final group project. Details here. \n\n\n\nJanuary 21-April 22\, 2026Wednesdays 5:30-8:30pmVirtual over Zoom \n\n\n\nGet the training you need to apply for CHW Certification! \n\n\n\nCHWARI’s FREE virtual Community Health Worker Core Competency Training is intended to prepare participants for entry-level CHW positions in community-based social service\, healthcare and behavioral health settings. Its 12 modules are each aligned with a set of competencies defined by the Rhode Island Certification Board. Each module includes 3 hours of live zoom training plus 3 hours of training activities\, for a total of 72 training hours\, fulfilling the 70-hour requirement for RI CHW certification. Applicants must be fluent in English.  \n\n\n\nThis CHW Core Training will run over ZOOM on Wednesday evenings\, 5:30pm to 8:30pm from January 21-April 22\, 2026.  *Please note that this training has different weekly hours than some of our past core trainings. The training focuses on practical workplace skills\, self-care and wellness\, stress and time management\, professional boundaries\, and strategies to prevent burnout and support work-life balance. \n\n\n\nThis in-person\, 24-hour Job Readiness Training is funded by the Institute for Education in Healthcare at Rhode Island College. This free virtual workshop will give advice\, clarity and facts about preparing your portfolio. Please note: CHWARI does not provide the certification itself; that authority resides with the RI Certification Board. DESCRIPTION:This five-hour training (offered in English) is designed for direct care staff working with older adults and their caretakers. SUMMARY:Cardiovascular Health & Diabetes Management CHW Training
DESCRIPTION:March 6\, 2026- June 5\, 2026Fridays 1pm-4pmVirtual over Zoom \n\n\n\n\nApply\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCHWARI is excited to offer Certified CHWs a chance to expand their skills!  Our free course\, Community Health Worker Training for the Specialty Endorsement in Cardiovascular Health and Diabetes Management (CVD/DM)\, will be offered on Fridays starting March 6th. This training is funded by the Rhode Island Department of Health and aligns with the Rhode Island Certification Board’s (RICB) educational requirements for this specialty CHW Endorsement in Cardiovascular Health and Diabetes.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou MUST be a Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) THROUGH the RICB to attend this training.  \n\n\n\nDiabetes and heart disease often go hand in hand and heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. People with diabetes are twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke than someone who doesn’t have diabetes. Learn how to effectively help your community members manage their chronic conditions to live longer\, healthier lives! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarol Pineda\, CCHW\, took the training in 2021 and shares how she now helps her clients AVOID DIABETES!“The diabetes and cardiovascular disease training helped me a lot to understand how this disease works and how we should eat better and exercising regularly helps us stay healthy. Now I can explain to my clients how some foods can be harmful if you have Diabetes and how we can avoid Diabetes if you are pre-diabetic.” \n\n\n\n\n\nThe CVD/DM Training will run from March 6\, 2026 through June 5\, 2026 (skips March 20th and April 3rd) every Friday from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm over Zoom. The training includes an asynchronous component comprised of weekly prework assignments.  Attendance at all Zoom sessions and completion of all assignments required to earn training completion certificate. \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to fill out all parts of the application below. The deadline for the application is March 2\, 2026 by 12 pm\, though the application may close earlier due to high demand. DESCRIPTION:Get Ready for Diabetes Alert Day® Diabetes Alert Day® is a one-day “wake-up call”\, observed by the American Diabetes Association on the fourth Tuesday in March\, focuses on the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of understanding your risk.  This year it’s observed on March 24\, 2026.     Prediabetes leads to type 2 diabetes\, putting you at risk for serious health complications including blindness\, kidney failure\, heart disease\, stroke and loss of toes\, feet\, or legs. If you’re among the 1 in 3 Rhode Island adults with prediabetes\, Ready for Health\, and evidence-based lifestyle change diabetes prevention program\, can help. Ready for Health is offered by community and health agencies through the Rhode Island Department of Health.    Here are some ways your agency can help to support this important public health program:  Include Alert Day on your website and/or post about it on your social media.   Diabetes Alert Day® is on March 24\, 2026. Promote “TAKE IT. It’s time to find out! \n\n\n\nJoin Treasure Gallagher from the Rhode Island Certification Board (RICB) virtually for this information session. She will share for 30 minutes and then there will be 30 minutes for CHW questions. Attend to learn about how to: \n\n\n\n\nUpload training certificates the day you get them…then it’s done!\n\n\n\nLook up when a credential expires\n\n\n\nChange your email address so that you never miss important reminders\n\n\n\n\nShe will also touch on upcoming changes to the renewal of the RI CCHW credential\, including the changes to the ‘lapsed’ certification status.  And more!  \n\n\n\nThough Director Gallagher will be able to answer some questions regarding the certification application process\, this is NOT a certification application workshop. DESCRIPTION:Learn How to Apply for Certification! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBegin preparing your CHW application\, including portfolio\, for submission to the RI Certification Board. \n\n\n\nIf you have already taken a Community Health Worker training and want guidance on applying for CHW certification in RI\, this workshop is for you! This free virtual workshop will give advice\, clarity and facts about preparing your portfolio. Please note: CHWARI does not provide the certification itself; that authority resides with the RI Certification Board.
