CHWs share their challenges in their own language\, listen compassionately\, and share resources. DESCRIPTION:Lifespan Community Health AmbassadorsVirtual Lecture \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIncarceration is a Determinant of Health \n\n\n\nPresented by Heather Gaydos\, MSW\, Senior Project Director\, Center for Health and Justice Transformation\, and local subject matter expert in the field of reentry \n\n\n\nApproximately one in three Rhode Islanders have a criminal record. Research indicates that a criminal record worsens health outcomes\, creates barriers to obtaining safe housing and employment\, disrupts healthy family relationships\, and places additional financial burdens on people who are likely to have limited or no income. This presentation will help attendees understand why incarceration is a social determinant of health. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will gain better understanding of: \n\n\n\n\nthe criminal legal system and the history of mass criminalization in the US\n\n\n\nhow incarceration is a social determinant of health\n\n\n\nhow to advocate for and support clients who are navigating the collateral consequences of criminal legal system involvement.\n\n\n\n\nLocation: This lecture will be provided through Zoom.
