GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Sr. Director of Advocacy, Community
Prevention and JEDI Specialist, this position is responsible for engaging Rhode Island communities through
prevention efforts in statewide programs, meetings and outreach. This position works closely with the
Department of Health and colleges (professionals and students) across the state of Rhode Island.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate workshops and focus groups with a diverse variety of audiences as needed/ requested.
- Provide a safe, confidential environment for training/workshop participants to ask questions and receive
support and information. - Work with the Day One team to plan, implement, and evaluate prevention initiatives, including social
media campaigns and community/virtual events. - Work on the planning, creation, and development of prevention content.
- Provide technical assistance and support to community entities to create new and/or support existing
partnerships and create protective environments. - Coordinate and facilitate a collaborative group of higher education professionals working on violence
prevention and response initiatives. - Provide support/assistance to the RI Student Collaborative (RISC).
- Assist in program development, grant reporting, and evaluation efforts.
- Communicate and collaborate with other Day One departments to share expertise and increase the
effectiveness of Day One programming. - Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, and agency meetings.
- Develop and increase expertise with ongoing training opportunities and professional development.
- To act as spokesperson for the agency through educational presentations and written reports.
- To perform all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
YBM 09/24 - Strong interpersonal skills to make educational presentations for ages and skill levels, from preschool to
professionals. - Verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy.
- The ability to deal effectively with stressful situations and crises as they arise.
- Knowledge of sexual assault/abuse, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and sexual
exploitation dynamics. - Sensitivity to the issues of family and community violence.
- Demonstrate competencies regarding cultural humility and values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Facilitation Skills
- Knowledge of prevention frameworks
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Works in a hybrid environment in office, school and community-based settings. *
- Position requires access to reliable transportation for in-state travel.
- Work requires flexible hours and occasional evening and weekend hours.
Notable Skills- preferred, but not required: - Able to navigate social media platforms and understanding of content creation
- Knowledge and use of Canva
- Understanding of Relationship Dynamics
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in the fields of public health, human services, or education preferred.
