CHW Voices- Career Closets
For Leadership and Advocacy

In October we highlighted the important work of community and career closets across Rhode Island, including opportunities to connect, collaborate, and support families in need of clothing and career resources.
Resources Shared:
- Tabitha’s Closet – Founded in 2023, located in Peacedale – low cost suggested-donation clothing for families. Open Saturdays 9:30am – 12:30pm and by appointment.
- Clothes to Kids – Founded in 2016, located in Johnston, serving the 16 towns in Providence County. Provides a school-appropriate wardrobe, every six months, free of charge. By appointment. Must be able to prove financial need or have referral. By appointment.
- Youth Pride Inc – Founded in 1992 Providence, Basic Needs Pantry – Food, clothes, toiletries, and/or school supplies available to youth up to age 24 through drop in hours or by appointment. No qualifiers needed. Gave away over 5000 lbs in clothing and food last year.
- Holly’s Closet – Founded in 2024, creating closets in High Schools of new items that can be accessed anonymously for all to use. Locations: Exeter West Greenwich, Pilgrim, Toll Gate & Coventry.
- Johnnycake Center, Westerly, Low-cost thrift store (7,000 sq ft) is open to the public, offering a wide range of items: clothing, furniture, household goods, electronics, kids’ items, multimedia, décor, and more.
- Dorcas International Clothing Collaborative, Providence & Multiple Locations. Free work and professional attire (clothes, shoes, belts) and personal hygiene products to low-income individuals who are completing job training, education programs, or seeking employment. Referral needed.
- Dress for Success, Providence. Empowering women to achieve economic independence through professional attire, development tools, and a network of support
- Success Wear- Professional Clothing from Connecting with Children & Familes, Woonsocket. A free service providing work-appropriate clothing to job seekers and individuals already in the workforce. CCF works one-on-one with clients to create a wardrobe tailored to the specific work environment, ensuring they feel confident and professional.
- Pretty Care Clothing Closet, Woonsocket. Free, gently used & brand-new clothes and shoes for men, women, and children. Blankets, hats, gloves, and scarves. By appointment only. 401‑497‑0348
- EBCAP Career Closet, East Providence and Newport. Provides free, work-appropriate clothing—including suits, shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories—to individuals seeking employment or in job training.
- Christian Hill Clothing Closet, West Warwick. Free clothing for all ages. Also Available:Food pantry (nonperishable food, baby items, toiletries), Household goods and toys.
As always, CHW Voices brings together individuals from across RI who are working directly with communities through health, social service, nonprofit, and grassroots organizations. These sessions are a space to learn, share, and strengthen our network of support for community health.
