HIV Targeted Case Management

Course Details:

Dates: TBD (Was Wednesdays, January 7, 2026 through March 25, 2026)

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: Zoom (the final class on 3/25 may be hosted in person at RIC for a celebration and final presentations, but this is TBD)

Program Overview:

Developed to teach best practices for achieving optimum health and wellness for people living with HIV/AIDS, this certification program consists of 36 hours of classroom instruction (12 weeks), weekly homework assignments, and creation of a final group project. These hours would count towards the Rhode Island Certification Board’s education requirement for CHW certification and recertification.

Course Modules:

  • Module I: Overview of the HIV Certification Program
  • Module IA: Case Management Definition, Philosophy, and Skillsets
  • Module IB: HIV 101 – The Basics
  • Module II: HIV Testing and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)
  • Module III: Building Awareness and Fundamental Engagement/Motivational Interviewing
  • Module IV: Social Determinants of Health
  • Module V: Cultural Responsiveness & Competence
  • Module VI: Behavioral Health (Trauma-Informed Care, Mental Health, Domestic Violence, and Grief & Loss) Part I
  • Module VII: Behavioral Health (Trauma-Informed Care, Mental Health, Domestic Violence, and Grief & Loss) Part II
  • Module VIII: Putting it All Together: Resources and Documentation Part I
  • Module IX: Putting it All Together: Resources and Documentation Part II
  • Module X: Ethics, Self-Care, and Professional Development Plan
  • Module XI: Group Projects
  • Module XII: Group Projects & Evaluations
