Public Health CCHW Training

CHWARI is excited to offer this training in Public Health to Rhode Island CHWs and we are thrilled that we get to offer it in person!!! This training is for Rhode Island certified CCHWs only.

Community Health Workers will:

  • Acquire a deeper understanding of the areas of public health and relationships between health of individuals, organized entities, and systems.
  • Gain the skills necessary to advocate for systems-level change towards improving public health in RI.
  • Have a working knowledge of RI Public Health infrastructure and how the CHW role fits into it.
  • Understand career/educational options in public health and the skills and educational opportunities necessary to advance and be successfully employed in these areas.
  • Understand how individuals are impacted from systemic racism and social determinants of health; where they live, learn, work and play.

Training Modules Include:

  1. The CHW Role in Public Health
  2. The Impact of Place on Health Outcomes
  3. CHW Core Skills & Data Literacy: Collecting, Understanding, Informing, and Visualizing Data
    • 3.b CHW Core Skills & Data Literacy: Communicating with Data
  4. Advocating for Change: Public Health Policy and CHW Leadership
  5. RI Public Health Infrastructure
  6. Partners in Advancing Public Health
  7. Careers in Public Health
  8. Understanding Case Studies: Tools for Learning and Evaluation
  9. Self-care and Final Presentation Prep
  10. Final Presentations & Debrief

Earn 30 hours towards your CHW Certification!

The in-person Public Health Training will be on five Saturdays at Rhode Island College. January 24th, 31st, Feb 7th, (No Feb 14th!), Feb 21st, Feb 24th, 2026. There will be 30 hours of in-class time. Attendance is required at all class sessions.
