WORKING WITH THE VIOLENT OFFENDER IN THE COMMUNITY
April 2, 2020 : 5:00 am - 12:00 pm
$70This training is being offered by:
The Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, The Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of RI
Why do people behave so violently in our society? Individuals act aggressively due in part to the circumstances they are in, lifelong patterns of learning, socialization and biological factors. The criminal justice system houses many violent offenders who are released into the community while participating in outpatient treatment and services. There are violent risk factors that perpetuate the violent offender’s actions within and outside of corrections leading to communities who are at risk for the consequences of those violent actions.
In this training, participants will explore strategies for working with the violent offender and the mentally ill offender in the criminal justice system. Specific attention will be given to the supervision of both types of offenders within the community setting.
