About Us: Sojourner House is a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault agency that provides residential, educational, and community-based interventions to families and individuals impacted by abuse.  We have offices in Providence and Woonsocket, and programs that operate statewide. Our goal is to help our clients rebuild their lives, piece by piece, through a variety of services. All of our programs work from the premise that violence is an unacceptable means to solving interpersonal conflict, and we encourage only non-violent methods of working out conflicts.

General Function:  The Immigration & Community Advocacy Specialist will work with local community partners to provide drop-in hours, support groups, referrals, and case management to Spanish-speaking clients while supporting undocumented immigrant victims of abuse to apply for immigration relief under the supervision of the program manager.

Job Responsibilities:
● Build and maintain relationships with organizations and assist with ongoing outreach efforts to communities that serve under-represented groups (including the refugee population, undocumented victims, clients in recovery, etc.)
● Provide individual advocacy, support groups, and referrals to victims of abuse.
● Seek and obtain resources for victims of domestic and sexual violence
● Assist Spanish-speaking clients with the intake process, and help with providing coverage at the Drop-In Center
● Assist the immigration team with filling out immigration forms such as U visas, T visas, self-petitions, naturalization, adjustment of status, waiver of inadmissibility, and more
● Assist clients in preparing sworn statements in support of their cases
● Meet with clients to assist with case preparation
● Obtain documents such as police reports, court disposition, vital records, etc., for clients
● Translate documents
● Provide interpretation services  for clients
● Assist immigrant victims with public benefits, by providing referrals or act as liaison between client and DHS
● Provide case management for eligible TVAP clients
● Assist in the screening of potential clients
● Seek and maintain partial DOJ accreditation for immigration advocacy work
● Assist in program outreach efforts
● Provide presentation to the community around domestic violence       and immigration benefits
● Other related duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:
A minimum of two to three years’ experience in human or social services;
Ability to speak English and Spanish (or another language fluently) is highly desired;
Familiarity with domestic violence and/or gender issues and immigration law;
Must be organized and detail-oriented;
Be computer literate (Word, Excel, and general Internet skills);
Have familiarity working with individuals of different cultures and backgrounds;
Have experience developing and delivering community presentations;
Possess the ability to lift 25 pounds;
Have comfort working individually and in teams;
Have a familiarity with social service services in Rhode Island;
Have the ability to work an irregular work schedule (subject to change), including some 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. shifts during the week and one shift on the weekend.
