Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Individual and Family Support Specialist. This is a full-time, calendar year, temporary, renewable contingent upon funding position.

The Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities at Rhode Island College invites applications for two Individual and Family Support Specialists. The persons in these positions will work independently and as part of a team to support adult initiatives, such as transition and access to adult services, self-directed services and elder care. The individual and family support specialists will also assist with training and technical assistance activities targeted to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their family members.

Required qualifications: 

•    Bachelor’s Degree; three years of experience providing support to adults with disabilities and family members of individuals with disabilities.

•    In lieu of an academic degree, at least ten years of experience providing support to adults with disabilities and/or families of individuals with disabilities.

•    Knowledge and experience with Rhode Island’s system of services and supports for individuals with disabilities, including those with co-occurring, physical, mental or age-related needs.

•    Knowledge of effective individual and family support models and strategies.

Preferred qualifications: 

•    Applicants who are family members of an individual with an intellectual and/or developmental disability.

•    Applicants who have experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

•    Applicants who are bi-lingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
