GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Community Program Manager, this position will provide
mentoring for youth who have been victims or are at high risk of becoming victims of
commercial sexual exploitation. The commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) is an egregious
form of child abuse that constitutes any sexual activity with a minor for which something of value is
given, exchanged, or promised. The Day One CSEC Mentor Program is the voice and experience of
survivors of commercial sexual exploitation. The Survivor Mentor will work cooperatively with
the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Coordinator to ensure a wrap-around support for the youth
referred by the Department of Children, Youth and Families.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide one-to-one support and mentoring on a weekly basis to youth who have been
    identified as victims or are at high risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual
    exploitation.
  2. Provide life skills training, personal relationship skill building, job training opportunities
    and access to community resources.
  3. Assist with transportation, housing, education, vocational, community supports and
    other identified basic needs.
  4. Provide written documentation of each contact utilizing intake report and
    weekly/monthly progress report data forms.
  5. Work collaboratively with community providers, law Enforcement, Clinical providers and
    DCYF to develop appropriate support plan for each youth assigned to the Mentor.
  6. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to enhance youth safety and ability to aid in
    prosecution when appropriate.
  7. Attend MDT meetings, educations meetings and other meetings that pertain to the
    youth assigned to the Mentor.
  8. Co-facilitate My Life My Choice Groups with the Day One CSEC trained clinician.
  9. Maintain documentation related to mentor activities. (time sheet, mileage, receipt
    documentation)

  10. Participate in My Life My Choice (MLMC) trainings, MLMC monthly supervision, weekly
    supervision with Community Program Manager and Day One training opportunities.
  11. Attend regular supervision and coaching meetings, as well as staff meetings and trainings

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • A personal interest in, and commitment to, working with youth identified or at risk for
    commercial sexual exploitation.
  • Appropriate verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy.
  • The ability to deal effectively in stressful situations as they arise.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • A positive attitude and belief in the hope of recovery of youth surviving from
    commercial sexual exploitation.
  • BCI and DCYF Clearance.
  • Position requires valid driver’s license, with clean driving record, and reliable, insured
    vehicle for in-state travel.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work in a Hybrid environment, including professional and community-based settings.
  • Flexible hours including occasional evening and weekend hours.
    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Office 365.
    LIVED EXPEREINCE PREFERRED
  • Personal history as a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation, sexual assault,
    domestic violence or were involved with the child welfare system as a minor.
  • Minimum of five years recovery from sexual exploitation (out of the commercial sex industry)
