SCHEDULE: Full-time Monday through Friday schedule, with an understanding that flexibility with working hours may be occasionally needed for early evening meetings. 

COMPENSATION: $50,000 to $60,000, depending on experience; this is an exempt, salaried position. Benefits include health/dental insurance, paid holidays, accrued vacation/sick/personal time, an Employee Assistance Plan, and a 401(k) plan with agency match.

POSITION SUMMARY:   

This is an Office on Violence Against Women-funded position and part of the Disability Grant Program.  This position will work in close partnership with our grant partner, Tri County Community Action.  The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services Program Manager will oversee all work of this grant project, starting with collaboration, relationship building, and conducting an organizational needs assessment.  The Manager will identify gaps in community-based services, housing, legal assistance, medical care, and other supports for individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and victims of abuse.  The Manager will serve as the primary author of our action plan and coordinate the other project deliverables, work with a technical assistance advisor, conduct trainings, and submit reports back to our federal funding source.

 PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and conduct a needs assessment for survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault and individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HoH), identifying the current strengths and resources that are available for victims who seek assistance and individual who are Deaf/HoH who seek services, as well as identifying the gaps and challenges for survivors who identify as part of this community. 
  • Develop a strategic plan for collaboration comprised of Sojourner House and Tri-County Community Action, to deliver high quality, trauma informed, client centered services state-wide to survivors of domestic violence who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Develop measurable tools to assess the needs of victims and survivors in the community including people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing; including but not limited to focus groups, community feedback sessions and surveys to understand the strengths and limitations as well as the needs in throughout the state of RI.
  • Supervise and assist any volunteers/interns who are working on this project.      
  • To a limited extent, the Program Manager will provide some direct services to victims seeking services from Sojourner House. This may include answering phone calls, conducting intakes of new clients, and providing referrals and information to potential clients.
  • Working with the Finance Director and Executive Director, assist with the development of a program budget and ensure adherence to this budget.
  • Complete data entry and submit necessary reports as required for grant compliance.
  • Oversee and support Sojourner House’s work with clients who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, making sure that internal systems and external systems are trauma- informed and client-centered for individuals with disabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver community presentations on issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking and/or housing when requested.
  • Support Sojourner House’s philosophy of client empowerment and respect for individual choices.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Sojourner House management.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology or related field required; familiarity with American Sign Language is a plus.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • A minimum of five (5) or more years of experience in human or social services
  • Demonstrated prior experience managing projects, evaluating outcomes, and working collaboratively with community partners
  • Demonstrated experience with working with people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred, but not required
  • Familiarity with domestic violence, sexual violence and/or human trafficking issues
  • Experience working to develop healthy and strong organizational cultures
  • Must be organized and demonstrate superior leadership skills
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, and general Internet skills)
  • Familiarity and comfort working with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience developing and delivering community presentations
  • A demonstrated familiarity with Deaf/Hard of Hearing, LGBTQ, HIV/AIDS, mental health, youth, and/or substance abuse populations
  • Access to a vehicle in order to facilitate traveling between the agency’s different locations
  • Comfort working individually and in teams
  • A track record of providing innovative thinking to the implementation of service delivery
  • Familiarity with social service services in Rhode Island
