Cardiovascular Disease Diabetes Managment CHW Training

April 19 – June 7, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6-8pm

Diabetes and heart disease often go hand in hand. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. People with diabetes are twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke than someone who doesn’t have diabetes—and at a younger age. Learn how to effectively help your community members manage their conditions to live longer, healthier lives.

This training will prepare you to apply for the RI Certification Board’s CCHW Specialty Endorsement in Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes Management. The instructor will be RIC Nursing Professor Deborah Kutenplon.

Topics: Motivational Interviewing and Social Determinants of Health, Stroke, Heart Disease, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Atrial Fibrillation, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Pre-Diabetes, Diabetes, Healthy Eating and Weight Control, Lifestyle Interventions

NOTE: ALL CLASSES MUST BE ATTENDED (except the May 26th final presentation work session is optional).

The deadline for the application is Thursday April 14, 9pm. If you have any questions, please email Kyleah Edwards-Benton at kedwardsbento_3255@email.ric.edu.
