We are looking to hire several experienced Peer Recovery Specialist Canvassers to conduct door-to-door outreach in Providence’s Elmwood Area (02907) to engage residents and share information and resources on harm reduction, overdose prevention, and recovery. This opportunity is a part of a larger strategy to prompt a community-driven response to reduce overdose deaths and promote harm reduction principles in targeted “hotspots” identified throughout Providence.
Job responsibilities entail going door-to-door with a partner in 02907 neighborhoods, engaging in conversations with residents, listening to understand barriers and needs of people or family members of people with substance-use disorders (SUD), and making linkages to community resources like communities of harm reduction and recovery, as well as educational, vocational, social, housing, health, and cultural resources. Additionally, canvassers will be taking rigorous notes, tracking outcomes, and regularly debriefing with the canvassing team and field director. Candidates must provide their own transportation, mobile device, and personal protective equipment.
Required
Comfort going door-to-door and speaking to people one-on-one on issues such as overdose and substance-use.
Comfort working in pairs in residential locations between 10 am – 8pm.
Ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds.
Possession of interpersonal skills to develop authentic yet professional peer-to-peer or near-peer relationships.
Experience assisting active drug users, recovering persons, or their close friends and family to identify their needs, interests or goals regarding harm reduction, recovery, or related social, emotional, or health needs.
Comfort using smartphone or tablet devices, and Google Apps for Business products.
Preference will be given to candidates who speak two or more languages, and/or who have strong community connections in 02907.
